First we will sit down and talk about where you are fitness-wise and what you want to accomplish. We can talk about any limitations you have, your past experiences with a trainer and exercise in general, what you look forward to and what makes you uncomfortable about starting a training program. We will also talk about any struggles you may have when it comes to your diet. Doing no harm is the first priority so being totally honest with me about your physical limitations is so important. I design any program around the idea that I still want you to be able to do this when you are eighty.
We all know people that have started an exercise program, achieved some of what they are trying for and then just stopped. The reason for stopping more often than not it is they have reached a plateau. Another way to say it is you have stagnated. Your body stops responding after it gets used to the demands placed on it, you don’t see or feel improvement anymore, a day is skipped here and there and then you are back to square one or worse. Your body will respond and adapt to the demands placed upon it. The routine cannot be just a list of exercises to be done that never changes. When that method is applied the result is failure. My job is to keep the program demanding, fun and most of all effective. Continuous improvement is the goal, and we will be changing things up regularly to keep it fun and keep you progressing.
Some like a noisy and busy gym and some would rather be working out alone in a quiet setting. The choice of where to workout is yours. Whether at my home, at your home, a gym I use or a gym you are a member of it is all about getting you the best workout possible and you need to be comfortable in your surroundings to do that. Whatever is good for you, I will accommodate.
The programs will consist of varying combinations of resistance training and aerobic conditioning depending on your goals. Those are the foundations of any total body program. TRX, elastic band, circuit style training, body weight workouts, HIIT style sessions and more conventional exercises will all be incorporated into the program. This variation keeps your body constantly challenged.
Paying close attention to your diet is crucial to reaching your goals. What and when you eat affects every other part of your life. Food is one of the things we look forward to every day and that’s a good thing. There is nothing wrong with looking forward to a nice meal. It’s when your days become driven by and planned around food that trouble starts. I will provide personalized meal guidelines taking into consideration what you like and don’t like. I will show you what to avoid, what to include and how to plan ahead. Having to count calories is a tedious operation. You will get tired of it and you will stop doing it. Other than competitive bodybuilders I know very few people that have kept it up at that level of detail long enough to make a difference, so counting calories at that level is not part of any program I would design.
Physical activity, sleep habits, diet, occupation and many other facets if life come together to create your lifestyle. What we are trying to do is change your lifestyle for the better by developing healthy habits. By improving your physical health we boost your self-confidence. With this comes a more optimistic outlook on life. This opens the door to more positive change. Exercise is the base of and the key to a sustainable positive lifestyle change.
Lastly let me say that this is a no-judgment zone. I have been where you are. I know that this can be intimidating and that those stairs are looking mighty steep. No worries! We are going to break it down into manageable steps particular to your program and goals. I will do everything in my power to keep you on track. Accountability is critical and I will call you out on things I see slipping. If I didn’t do that I wouldn’t be doing my job. The way I look at it, when you succeed it is your success, if you fail it is my failure.
We will hit it hard, have some fun and get you where you want to be faster than you think. You are worth it, so begin your journey to a healthier, happier life today.
